National Inquiry Conference into Self-harm Among Young People
What now for Scotland?06 October 2006 - Royal Society, Edinburgh Admission: £99 (inc. VAT) Self-harm among young people is a major public health issue, affecting at least one in 15 young people. Self-harm presents a challenge to all those working with young people. There is a lack of understanding about self-harm.
In 2004, The Camelot Foundation and the Mental Health Foundation launched the first ever national inquiry into self-harm among young people.
For young people that do find the courage to seek help they don't always get the required response.
The event provides a space to discuss openly the experience of young people and the dilemmas faced by professionals around training, education and policy; harm minimisation; and the legal issues when dealing with disclosure.
The conference will set the Inquiry findings and recommendations within a Scottish context.
