What's the Story?
Reporting Mental Health and Suicide

A useful handbook, What's the Story? Reporting Mental Health and Suicide, has been launched which tackles how the media handle such sensitive issues.

Packed with facts, figures and contacts, the handbook provides guidance for journalists on how they can make a real difference to the lives of millions of people who are affected by mental illness. It provides advice on how to avoid reporting suicides in a way that tragically can – and does – result in people killing themselves in copycat incidents.

The handbook has been produced by Shift, the Department of Health's campaign to tackle the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health across England.
