Choose Life Summit 2010

Dr penny Woolnough                  Delegates on day two of the Choose Life summit

Date: 8/9 February 2010

Location: Aberdeen

Venue: Hilton Doubletree

This annual event provided an excellent forum to meet, share knowledge and practice with local area co-ordinators, national partners and stakeholders. Furthermore, the event allowed all delegates to review progress over the last year on the achievements of Choose Life, whilst also encouraging discussions about future developments and challenges. While suicide rates in Scotland have declined by 10% since the launch of Choose Life in 2002, those in the most deprived areas of Scotland have a suicide risk double that of the Scottish average and young men continue to be at greater risk. As a result, the Summit in Glasgow last year focused on inequalities and concluded that 'widening the net' would be a useful approach to tackle this issue head on. Therefore, through communicating with others locally, nationally and internationally – this year's theme was Connecting to assist 'widening and ultimately strengthening the net'.

The 2010 Choose Life Summit Programme contains an outline of activities over the 2 days.

The official Summit Report will be available in March/April 2010.
