Local action plan - Fife
Suicide prevention work in Fife is carried out through the multi - agency Steering Group which reports to the Coordination Group of the Fife Mental Health and Wellbeing Alliance and the Fife Mental Health Strategy Implementation Group. Jo - Anne Valentine, Choose Life Coordinator and Dorothy Woolley, Choose Life Development Officer (part time) are based in the NHS Fife Public Health Department at Cameron Hospital, Leven.
Following a development event in March 2015, we are in the process of forming a smaller core steering group which will meet for the first time at the end of May. At this meeting the terms of reference will be discussed and a start will be made to developing a new action plan. Contact will be maintained with a wider group through regular email updates and network meetings / events. One of these meetings a year will focus around locations of concern to which the management staff at the Tay and Forth road bridges, representatives of Transport Scotland, the Police and the RNLI will be invited.
Suicide prevention funds are being used to employ the development officer and for awareness raising activities such as information stands at college fresher's events, bus advertising, production of a popular directory leaflet Keeping Connected Fife and advertising on the DC Thomson Courier website. Three - year funding has also been awarded to the Fife Self Harm Project run by Penumbra and the Dunfermline and Kircaldy branches of the Samaritans.
