This brief guide to suicide statistics has been developed to help you understand which figures to consider when looking at suicide, know when to use numbers, and when to use rates, when to use crude rates, age standardised mortality rates and standardised mortality ratios.

This is the 2008 evaluation of the Choose Life ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) programme. ASIST is a a two-day workshop which offers practical help to enable caregivers to recognise and intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.
Ten ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) workshops were held in West Dunbartonshire between 2004-6. This 2007 evaluation is based on the first four of those workshops. ASIST is a 2-day intensive, interactive and practice-dominated course aimed at enabling people to spot the risk of suicide and provide immediate help to persons at risk.
