Art of Conversation

Tuesday 2 August 2016

The Art of Conversation includes sections on the myths and the signs of suicide, spotting the signs and helping, and advice on starting difficult conversations.

It aims to help the reader to be a good listener, details training courses and includes other available resources that are in place across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

This guidance is about preventing suicides at locations of concern and is an important part of the suicide prevention strategy in Scotland. A location of concern has been defined as 'a specific usually public site which is frequently used as a location for suicide and which provides either means or opportunity for suicide'. This guidance recognizes the need for a range of agencies working in partnership and is adapted from the Australian Government Department of Health publication, Preventing Suicide at Suicide Hotspots.

This publication lists the support which is available for those who have been bereaved by suicide within local areas.

An overview of rates of suicide and, where available, self-harm in Scotland. It draws on the international epidemiological evidence to summarise the factors that make societies and individuals more or less at risk of suicide and self-harm and, reviews of international effectiveness evidence to summarise what we currently know about the effectiveness of interventions to prevent and reduce socio-economic inequalities in suicidal behaviour
