30th OctoberNRCEMH Regional Group Launches for BME Mental HealthThe National Resource Centre for Black and Minority Health (NRCEMH) will be hosting a series of three regional events throughout Scotland in December and January in order to support organisations working with black and minority ethnic (BME) communities to come together to network, share and work in partnership. Keynote speakers will provide an initial input and lead a discussion on the themes of recovery, access to services and BME women's health issues.

25th OctoberScottish Executive Responds to Choose Life EvaluationFollowing on from the release of the Independant Evaluation of Choose Life published last month, the Scottish Executive has responded to the findings and have now published their response. To download this document, click here.
12th OctoberBBC's "Secret Life of Manic Depression" is Now Downloadable Following on from Stephen Fry's two part documentary about manic depression aired on BBC 2 last month, the BBC has produced a booklet, "The Secret Life of Manic Depression". This describes the experiences of people with bipolar disorder, including American actress Carrie Fisher and composer Robert Schumann. It highlights the characteristics of bipolar disorder, its treatment and the main sources of information and help. "WHO Media Guidelines" Added to Resource Database This resource is relevant to media professionals throughout the world, giving evidence on things such as how to report on suicides, things to avoid, as well as sources of reliable information. This resource is a useful addition to Scottish Media Guidelines (see media section). Choose Life Multi-Agency Guidance Added to Resource Database Choose Life in Dundee has recently launched the "Choose Life Multi-Agency Guidelines for Children and Young People at Risk of Self-Harm and Suicide". The document was created by the Choose Life young persons sub-group which involved a wide range of partners such as Tayside Police, NHS Tayside and the voluntary sector.
6th OctoberScotland Hosts Ground-Breaking Conference to Tackle Suicide Front line workers, academics and policy planners joined together at the Royal Museum in Edinburgh for the first ever conference to share different perspectives on how Scotland might reduce deaths by suicide.
2nd OctoberHealthy Body, Healthy Mind; 3rd Annual Conference 14th November On the 14th of November 2006, Glasgow University's Department of Develomental Medicine will host the Healthy Body, Healthy Mind Conference at the Glasgow Hilton hotel. The conference will provide participants with a better understanding of what we can do to help achieve and maintain good physical health, as well as good mental health & well being. |
