'Psychosocial Interventions for Drug Misuse: translating evidence to practice'

CARES, a Scottish based multi-disciplinary academic centre, is holding a 6th National Conference at the West Park Conference Centre in Dundee on 22nd June.

Red Nose Day Grants Available for Work with Children and Young People

40% of money raised from Red Nose Day goes to projects in the UK to help poor and disadvantaged people tackle a range of problems and turn their lives around. Comic Relief is encouraging Scottish charities and community groups working with young people to apply.

The closing date for applications is 8th June 2007

'Black Women and Mental Health – Developing Holistic Interventions' Conference

This is the second in a series of conferences looking at minority ethnic women's mental health in the context of life in 21st century Britain. The growing number of black and Asian women, including refugees and asylum seekers, are up to four times more likely to be admitted to a psychiatric hospital than white women.

RUHBC Evaluation Summer School

The Research Unit in Health, Behaviour and Change (RUHBC) at the University of Edinburgh is to run a second Evaluation Summer School in Edinburgh week beginning 4 June 2007.

In order to help people access learning on evaluation, Health Scotland is offering a number of bursaries to attend.

National Evaluation of Choose Life Roadshows

In November 2006 Choose Life funded and, with the help of SIREN, organised four roadshows in different parts of Scotland.

The national evaluation team has now completed a 'Roadshow Evaluation Report' which can be viewed here

Breathing Space Support Officer Vacancy

Breathing Space is recruiting a Support Officer to join the Team based at Clydebank or South Queensferry.

The Support Officer will provide support for Breathing Space: the phone line which offers listening, support and signposting to people who are suffering from low mood or depression in their lives.

Scottish Executive publishes report on suicide trends and risk factors.

A report "The epidemiology of suicide in Scotland 1989 - 2004: an examination of temporal trends and risk factors at national and local levels" has today been published.

Men's Health Forum Scotland Hosts Second 10K Run for Men

The Men's Health Forum Scotland is holding the 10K Run for Men at Bellahouston Park on the 17th June 2007, and is open to all men aged 15 and above. All men are encouraged to take part to help raise awareness that mental health is just as important as physical health.

Registration for this year has been limited to 5000 men and all registrations and payments must be received by June 1st.

Theraputic Interventions In Self-Harm

This conference, held on the 19th of April 2007, in the Manchester Conference Centre, University of Manchester, will review the latest models of therapeutic interventions for people who self-harm. The conference agenda will discuss how different therapeutic models work, what the approaches are and the evidence base supporting their success.

Addressed by leading practitioners and service users, the event will provide a lively debate and the opportunity to network with colleagues.


Held at Celtic Park in Glasgow 15th of May 2007, the conference will examine models of good practice in England, Ireland and Finland which will help inform the planning and development of a fully accessible service for deaf and deafblind people in Scotland.

The conference will enable delegates to participate in and contribute to shaping Scotland's ideal service.
